Filipino claiming to be of Spanish decent?

I have a friend whom claims to be of Spanish decent. (He's Filipino) As soon as he told me, I started thinking to myself, "Aren't spaniards european?", I soon came to the conclusion that no, he was just straight up Filipino. (Judging from the way he looked) I told him and he got furious, which at the time I found quite hilarious. He told me that he has a spanish last name, therefore making him of Spanish decent. I then replyed with, "Just because you have a spanish last name, doesn't mean that you have some spanish blood in you." I mean, I know the Spaniards took over the island and all, but I don't think they raped everyone like they did to the indigenous people's of the americas. The question is, what are the odds of finding a filipino with spanish blood? ?(I'm sure there's a few, but I mean come on what are the odds! :P )
